Long Term Effects of Recent Rioting in the UK

This state of affairs is clearly not sustainable over the long term. While I am not making outrageous claims about the eventual outcome such as a revolution, it is clear that UK is firmly down the path taken by east European countries in the 1980s where people lost so much faith in the government over 10-15 years that they had no further interest in the continued survival of their system. No amount of repression, threats or manipulation can make people support a system if they can clearly see it unable to deliver on basic promises and services.

Opinion Polls Are a Socially Acceptable Scam

But why have opinion polls started failing so badly in past 10-15 years? Why did they not fail so badly before then? Well.. to be honest, they did fail even back then but the lack of a viable alternative media or the internet at that time allowed those in power to memory-hole the failures. A further factor behind their recent famous failures (Brexit, 2016 and 2020 elections etc) has been the concurrent open failure of political parties and other institutions in the West after 2008.

Miserable Societies and Very Low Fertility Rates

Readers might remember that, about a year ago, I wrote a post on how internalizing the logic of neoliberal capitalism (especially by women) is one of the major reasons for the precipitous decline of fertility rates in western countries. In that post, I also talked about how this trend is anti-relationship, causes social atomization and will ultimately cause these societies to go extinct. This post is a continuation of that one, but focusing more on the other side of that equation, namely- how miserable societies cause very low fertility rates

Joe Biden is the American Leonid Brezhnev

Given how much the overall trajectory of USA in the past decade has come to resemble USSR after 1973, it is very fitting that the current president of this country, Joe Biden, has a lot in common with Brezhnev. Both were mediocre but otherwise acceptable political leaders who ended up leading dying empires in visible decline. Both experienced serious physical and mental deterioration in their final years and became the symbolic figureheads for groups of insiders who were unwilling and unable to reform a sclerotic and deeply malfunctional system.

Democrats Apparently Want Trump to Win the 2024 Presidential Election

On the other side, you have Trump, whose popularity has been unaffected in spite of numerous attempts by Biden’s DOJ to convict him through numerous laughably bad court cases which are prosecuted by incompetent and corrupt DEI hires. The blame for this failed attempt to assassinate him will be almost certainly stick to the Democratic party and its rank and file of “leaders”. Given what happened today, on 13th July 2024, it is fair to say the rest of country is going to see Democrats as the real hand behind this failed assassination.

Could ‘The Simpsons’ Have Remained Relatively Fresh and Relevant?

Complex and nuanced characters became simplistic caricatures who spouted a few famous catchphrases, acted in stereotyped ways and generally stopped displaying any ability to introspect. The plots of the shows became increasingly outrageous and ridiculous, not unlike what can be seen with the plague of superhero movies over the past decade. All those guest appearances by celebrities did not help either. The show went from what was arguably the best adult cartoon show to an empty carnival spectacle with lots of flash but no substance.
